With the news of a possibility to unlock IPhone bring good news to some Filipinos, although the unit is not available in the Philippines still Filipinos can find a way to bring it here (I don’t know if it’s a gift or a curse). The IPhone which supposed to work only for AT&T Cingular carrier in the U.S. was able to unlock by George Hotz, a student of Rochester Institute of Technology. On August 21, 2007, Hotz announced on his blog that he and four more friends has unlocked the IPhone making it possible to be used with any sim card, maybe even here in the Philippines.
But all hopes for this is now gone as Apple issued a software update for IPhone which will make the unlocked units unusable.
The Software upate will automatically available by docking the unit to the computer, and selecting the device in iTunes, and then hitting “Check for Update.”
