Marilyn Janice Blige or most commonly known as Mary J. Blige was born on January 11, 1971 in Bronx New York to her parents Thomas and Cora Blige. Mary's father is a jazz musician and her mother Cora a nurse. Mary also has a brother Bruce Miller and a younger sister Jonquell.
As a teen Mary dropped out of school and was headed down to the road of self destruction, until one day in the year 1988 she recorded a song by Anita Baker in a recording booth at a local mall.
