Google has launch its first smartphone named as Nexus One. It has been designed by the folks at Google, and the hardware is manufactured by HTC. The new Nexus One is a sleek, awesome handset, but the most important ingredient in touchscreen smartphones is software and Nexus One will run on Google’s mobile OS named Android v2.1.

With the amount of admiration Nexus One is enjoying nowadays, it will surely be one of the best Android phones in the market. But let’s have a comparison check with Nokia N97 and we’ll try to put the stats of these two devices side by side for my reference at least.

So let’s begin the bout!

1. Size and Weight: Nexus One is thinner than Nokia N97 with 130g in weight and 11.5mm in thickness, whereas Nokia N97 weighs 150 g with a thickness of 15.9mm.

2. Display: Nexus One has a large 3.7″ Capacitive high resolution OLED display with resolution of 480×800 pixels, whereas Nokia N97 has 3.5 inches TFT resistive touch display with 360 x 640 pixels.

3. Keyboard: Nexus One has an Onscreen virtual keyboard, while Nokia N97 has Slide-out full QWERTY keyboard plus Alphanumeric Onscreen virtual keyboard (also handwriting recognition).

4. Multitouch: Nexus One has the biggest advantage with multitouch support while Nokia N97 supports multitouch only in few apps.

Every single text area in Android 2.1 is speech-to-text (Google Voice recognition) enabled, which means you can say your text messages, emails, tweets, notes to self, whatever.

5. Sensors: Nexus One has an extra mic at the back to reduce background noise, whereas Nokia N97 lacks an extra mic and thus background noise reduction features.

6. Camera: Though both phones sports a 5 megapixel camera (2592×1944 pixels) with LED flash, I believe the Nokia N97′s Carl Zeiss optic lens make it stand out.

7. Processor: The Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) 8250 processor of the Nexus One is surely the winner, with speeds of up to 1GHz while Nokia N97′s ARM 11 processor only has 434MHz.

With audio and video playback to go with a library of 5 megapixel camera snaps, storage has become an issue. So let’s take a peak.

8. Storage: Nexus One has 512MB internal memory, 512MB RAM and expandable up to 32GB, whereas Nokia N97 has 32GB onboard, 128 MB RAM and up to 16GB expandable therefore taking this round.

9. Operating System: Nexus One runs the Google Android 2.1 os. on the other hand Nokia N97 operates on Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5, with Nexus One taking this round.

10. Battery: Life of removable 1400 mAh battery in Nexus One performs admirably, but I think Li-Ion 1500 mAh (BP-4L) battery on the Nokia N97 is better.

11. Video: Nexus One has the higher video resolution with 720×480 @ 20FPS, but Nokia has the fastest with 30FPS @ 640×480 pixels.

12. Trackball: Tri-color notification LED, alerts when new emails, chats, text messages arrive.

The Nexus One may have surpass the Nokia N97 smartphone in performance, display quality, and speed, but it is still not yet a full-fledged business device.

And though it may not have all the features we’d like, Nexus One greatly enhances the Google Android family with a fast processor, good call quality, and improved voice control features.

Comparing newer technology to older is a little bit unfair, ‘coz it’s pretty clear that the Nexus One is more capable than what’s found in Nokia’s N97. But this is by no means just a definitive guide to what technology we have right now compare to last 2009 and I’m pretty sure you’ll have your own opinions. You could look at a few other smaller issues but I believe these have been the most important keys.

At first glance of the two iPhone model, one would be unlikely to notice any difference between the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. So just by looking, can you tell the difference between an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 3GS? Your answer would certainly be no; they look identical to each other and has no different to the naked eye. Once you’ve used the iPhone 3GS, however, you’ll find out just how different it is.

So what had been added to the new iPhone 3GS for you not to think that it was not somewhat a low-key upgrade? Well here’s the key improvements on the iPhone 3GS that we’ve come to notice, the new iPhone 3GS has improved performance (on speed and battery life), a digital compass, bigger memory, voice control and video recording, a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, and the new 32GB storage option.

Improved Performance:

We’re not talking about the iPhones user interface or any additional applications – everything that runs on the iPhone 3GS can run on the iPhone 3G, but the 3GS is significantly faster “S -for speed”. Rather than to introduced new features or new apps, Apple decided to concentrate on speed over the previous generation making iPhone 3GS a ‘more powerful’ model over the previous one.

Looking at the specs, the CPU in the iPhone 3GS is clocked at 600MHz using its ARM Cortex A8, compared to 400MHz on the previous iPhone 3G. As well as this, you’ll be getting 256MB RAM compared to 128MB in the 3G. When you’re using the 3GS it feels a lot more responsive, and the speed at which applications load is staggeringly quick compared to what you’d get on the older generation.

Battery:

A surprising feature of the 3GS is increased battery life, despite a higher clock speed in the device. Battery life is always a concern in smartphones, with most lasting no more than a few hours of intensive use, but the average user will be able to get a full days charge with the new improvements to battery life.

Camera:

Beside improvements on speed and battery life is the 3.2 megapixel camera, another reason to opt for the 3GS over the 3G (2.0 MP) or other older generation. The camera in the iPhone 3GS has always been pretty shocking, although I would never use the iPhone’s camera as my main point-and-shoot, but you’ll find a 3.2 MP camera in the 3GS useful to boasts video recording and auto focusing for when taking still shots.

You’ll be surprised how much this will increase the quality of your shots over previous generations, especially when used with the new auto exposure and auto white-balance features. When it comes to the quality of your video recordings, you’ll be impressed with the quality for a mobile device, although it simply can’t compete with dedicated video recorders. Still, it’s a nice feature to have, and you can tap the screen when recording to focus your videos.

Summary:

Though the iPhone 3GS is not an insignificant step forward in the iPhone family. The Nike+ support, magnetometer (compass), video recording, voice control, better camera, better battery life and faster data network are all improvements nobody would call a step backwards.

The device features a side slider full QWERTY keyboard for optimal email experience. Enjoy videos, music, and graphics on the 2.4″ QVGA display and Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate. Find directions and locations with the integrated A-GPS and included maps. Take photos with a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera and a secondary VGA for videocall.

Additional features include USB charging with simultaneous data transfer, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, supports 3G, equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, A-GPS: Nokia Maps 3.0, predictive text T9 and USB 2.0 High-Speed. Supported WCDMA frequencies depend on the region where the device is available.

Similarly, the Nokia E55 a follow up to affordable smartphone E51 also features A-GPS, Nokia Maps and N-Gage support. But since it is geared for consumers who are looking for an mid-range smartphone, its best feature would have to be its compacted QWERTY keyboard which was well loved by Nokia E51 users transitioning from the standard keypads of regular mobile phones.

Both these mobile phones are said to be loaded with Nokia’s new email interface which according to Nokia give a more efficient corporate email solution. And to make this possible, Nokia has partnered with Microsoft and Lotus Notes. This is a feature which made the BlackBerry devices successful in conquering the corporate mobile phone users.

With Nokia E75 and E55, people will no longer need to boot up a PC to get a full desktop email experience. The enhanced email UI includes folder and HTML email support, expandable views and sorting capability by date, sender and size, as well as the most commonly used email functions just a single click away. On top of email, the device also offer improved calendar capability, as well as contacts and task management.

Taking a lot of inspiration from Nokia’s highly business mobile device, the Nokia 9300, the E75 would cater not only to smartphone users but to mobile gamers as well. Aside from its full support for Nokia Maps and assisted GPS feature with a 3-month license for turn-by-turn navigation, the phone is also loaded with N-Gage functionality. So, that takes care of our Nokia mobile gamer friends’ needs. In addition, the Nokia E75 also supports Nokia’s Ovi service, particularly useful for sharing files in the cloud.

The Nokia E55 also supports 3G and comes equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, A-GPS: Nokia Maps 3.0 and two cameras – a 3.2-megapixel main camera and an additional VGA camera for video calls. A candybar, it´s got what it takes to be a good business oriented device. The Nokia e55 features is not any different from the one on the E75 in almost anything, except for several nice novelties like battery life, T9, internal memory, included microSD card, weight and size.

Both handsets sports a music player and FM radio with RDS and both apps come dressed in the standard Symbian OS 9.3 S60 3rd edition with Feature Pack 2 attire.

Not the least, the Nokia E-Series fleet is growing stronger. To wrap it up, the Nokia E55 and E75 both rock, so E for excellence goes both ways.

3G (Third Generation) is the latest wireless technology. It is also known as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System), an improvement over 2G (Second Generation) providing wireless access to the data and information to the users from any where and anytime. It is the latest mobile technology and in fact it is describe by Cellular (2004) as being a generic name for the host of mobile technologies.
3G cellular phones were first launched in Japan in October 2001. This 3G phone was designed so users would be able to surf the Internet, view pictures of the people they are talking to, watch movies and listen to music on their handsets .

What are the benefits of 3G?
You can perform all those functions that you perform at present with your mobile devices but at much higher speed than before. It provides you with faster connectivity, faster internet access, and music entertainment with improved quality. The benefits are immense. You can avail the benefits of video calling. You can call you friend and have a video call facility. The clarity is better and the facility can be enjoyed as long as both of you are using the 3G technology.

With 3G technology it is possible to access any site on the Internet by using your phone as a modem for your computer or laptop and mail the important documents. Downloading games and songs is much faster with this technology. You can download your favorite games into your mobile and start playing. You can also download the music videos or simply the songs. The technology enable for much faster download. Hence it will take only few minutes to download movie clips or albums.

You can use your favourite search engines to find information on news headlines, get information about the evening weather so that you can plan your party. You can find out the latest baseball score and any latest news about your favorite sport. The 3G phones with their advanced feature will also enable you to watch exciting highlights of your favorite sport. With the increased speed and improved quality of the services provided in the 3G phones, you can view the multimedia data applications like movie clips and the music videos with more clear picture than with the 2.5G technology mobiles.

The 3G technology provide you with the data transmission speed of up to 2Mbps when you are using the phone on stationary mode. It also provides significantly faster data transfer rates of connectivity and increased networking and most importantly the resistance to noise.

The technology has in fact increased the bit rate thus enabling the service providers to provide high speed internet facilities, increased call volumes and host of the multimedia applications to their customers. All these services can be provided to the customers on the basis of the amount of data they transmit and not on the time for which they use the service thus making the services cheaper for us.

A great deal of potential exists for new applications in the future as 3G packet based networks will allow users to be on line all the time. The capabilities of wireless networks in terms of bandwidth must still, however, be improved upon (3GNewsroom.com, n.d.).

Conclusion:
3G is an exciting new technology that is being incorporated into mobile devices across the globe. Users are now able to make person-to-person calls, download data and do a variety of other tasks they never imagined possible all via their 3G cell phones.

Nokia connects people to each other and the information that matters to them with easy-to-use and innovative products like mobile phones, devices and solutions for imaging, games, media and businesses.
With this driving passion for innovation, Nokia has launches an array of multimedia devices and rich multimedia applications that we call next generation Series phones. The Nokia N-Series and E-Series phones.
The Nokia N-Series is attempting to set the agenda for mobile multimedia and produce the defining device category for this market.
Nokia calls the N-Series a multimedia computer: a fully converged, feature-rich class of device that it predicts will make single-purpose devices like the iPod obsolete.
The Nokia N-Series devices are optimized for either video, photography or music, and all are based on Symbian/Series 60, have high-end megapixel cameras, are music oriented and have good browsing. N-Series phones like the Nokia N95 8Gb, N78, N96 16Gb, N93 3G, N800 and more.
Where consumers can use a single device to enjoy entertainment, access information and to capture and share pictures and videos, whenever and wherever they want.
Nokia N-Series said it will also strengthen its retail strategy to extend a complete mobile experience to its users.
While N-Series is focus on photography, access information and entertainment, the Nokia E-Series (Executive Series) focus on sophisticated mobile multimedia communication device that offers a perfect balance between business and pleasure.
All the Nokia E-series models include amazing features like Series 60 platform 3rd Edition, QVGA or better displays, Wi-fi, push email, Bluetooth, EDGE and 3G high-speed data and lots more.
Further, the new Nokia E-series devices, combined with the Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite 8.0 platform, significantly enhance the potential for businesses to achieve new levels of productivity and competitive advantage.
Thus making Nokia E-series one of the most powerful business handsets offering mobility to smart businesses and professionals on the move.
Nokia E-Series like the E66, E71, E90 Communicator, E65, E61 and other E-Series are now out in the market.

Cellphones are now the most sought after device in today’s technology. This innovation has prove its worth despite the facts that there are still people who are in contradiction to this device.
Yet we cannot hide the facts that there are more pros than cons on this one. But what has come to my interest is the future impact of cellphones on education and our children.
It made me wonder what it will be like to go to school now with full access to cellphones that can be freely used by students.
In fact, this issue or concern of whether students could be allowed to freely bring their cellphones to school have been under fire in different schools today. Some schools even have already ban the bringing of this device inside their classes.
Raising issues like, that this very device could be the reason that would affect our children’s study or be use in wrong manner like cheating during exams/test, take pictures in locker room and bathrooms, arrange drug deals and/or adult content that is freely accessible in the web.
Isolated cases that involved few students from different schools and not all students are like that, how far we can go if we punished the majority for the crimes of a few.
I personally agree with the advantages of cellphones, iPods and other devices that can store and transfer files and be used for the collection and use of digital artifacts.
We parents these days rely more on cell phones to keep track of our children and communicate with them. Our kids also need cell phones to coordinate plans with friends and parents.
The safety of our children is also one of the most important issue that raise concern by most parents, not only during school, but before and after school.
We want our children to have the freedom and mobility and we want them to also accept the responsibility that goes with this. Let us not deprive them their right.
So as parents, we should be the best model in proper practice and sensible use of this technologies innovation.
In the end, its is our children who shall reap the fruits of this innovation and I believe this is the way forward for education.
